December 1, 2008

Hello Parkview Parents!

I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Vacation. It was great to see the kids today and listen to all of their adventures! We have a full month ahead of us. I have waited to send you this letter because we were still working out the final details on our Christmas Program and I think that we now ready. The Christmas Program will be Sabbath, December 13th at 4:30 at Southern Hills Adventist Church. We hope that this will allow everyone to be able to attend. Immediately following the program there will be a Christmas Banquet. There are several things that you need to know
• The tickets for the banquet must be purchased in advance so that we know how much food to make! Adult tickets cost 10.00 and students and children’s tickets will be 5.00. Please purchase your tickets from Mrs. Litchfield in the office by December 9 so that we can have an accurate count! The money raised will go to buy a sound system for the school.
• We will be purchasing angel costumes for the Christmas Program and if you have a child in grades Pre-K to 6th grade and we would like you to help offset the cost of the costumes by sending 5.00 for each child’s costume. Please give the money to Mrs. Litchfield.
• Please bring a dozen cookies to the Christmas program to share as we have done in past years.
We will be setting up our “Angel Tree” again this year! If you know of a child that needs a brighter Christmas, please get the information on the child to Mrs. Litchfield very soon since we hope to have the names ready to go send home with you starting this Thursday. Please bring two unwrapped gifts for the child that you selected by Monday December 15th so that our team of wrappers can have them wrapped and ready to go before the Christmas vacation!
There is one more way that you can help! Please bring your gently used children’s coats for foster kids. We will pass the coats on to Laree Reidenbaugh, who works with the Department of Human Services. She also collects luggage for the kids who often do not have anything other than a plastic bag when they are taken to the foster home.
May God bless you during this season! Keep our little school in your prayers!

Happy Thanksgiving

Dear Parkview Parents

I hope that it makes it easier for you to get the newsletters via the internet. There are a few things that we would like to make you aware of.
• The apples are here! You should have received the order form for the citrus and nuts. We will have a short turn around time so the citrus orders are due when we get back from Thanksgiving Break.
• THIS FRIDAY SCHOOL WILL END AT 12:00! PLEASE PICK UP YOUR CHILD ON TIME!
• We are putting together a recipe book and would like to ask you to contribute two or three of your favorite recipes. The money raised will go to buy playground equipment.
• We will be doing the Angel Tree again this year. If you know of a child whose Christmas we can make brighter, let us know.
• Check out our website for great features and pictures under “student life” where you can find pictures of Olympic Day and pictures taken by Emily Lambilotte to show what a day at Parkview is like for her! The website again is www.parkviewadventistacademy.com .
• PICTURE RETAKES ARE THIS WEDNESDAY!
• We are changing the date of the Christmas Program to Saturday evening December 13th so that we can have a Christmas dinner following the Christmas Program at Southern Hills Church. The money will go to buy a sound system that we desperately need.
• We will be honoring those students who excelled in their studies with a display on the entrance bulletin board. Look for it after Thanksgiving Break.
This week we will be teaching kids who are interested in learning to crochet the basics. It is a good skill to know but we are asking students who are interested in learning to commit to making at least two hats for newborn babies and preemie babies that we will donate to a local hospital. The hats will need to be made of cotton and can be in any color. It is not expensive. One roll of the cotton yarn at Wal-Mart is less than two dollars and you can make four baby hats from one ball. The student will also need crochet hook size 5.5 millimeters. (If any of you adults would like to participate, I will be glad to show you too!) It is very easy. We will display the finished hats on the bulletin board at the entrance.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Happy Reformation Day!
This weekend is one of the big events of the school year and I hope that all of you will be able to make it. I am sorry that all of our signs say that the events start at 6:00. We had originally scheduled Fall Festival for after daylight savings time change, but then we moved it up. We will actually be starting at 7:00. We will have a lot of the old standbys as well as some new additions to the fun. Our choir will be singing for the first time publicly! Please help us by making sure that your child is where they are supposed to be during the evening and we would like to ask that you do not let your children go outside to play on the play equipment. Also keep track of your child so that they are ready to go when it is time for them to sing. This is the major fundraiser for our classrooms and we will also be raising money for Worthy Student Fund, Playground equipment and a sound system for our choir. The one that we use is borrowed from the conference office.
Just a few reminders!
· Next Thursday and Friday I will not be at the school since I will be going with the Junior and Senior class on College Days to SWAU.
· We will be participating in the Winter Korean program and are looking for host families to take two students for the months of January and February. The first week of February we have Winter Break while our teachers are at a conference in Austin, and that week the Korean students will also be gone on a trip. The host family will get 1,000 dollars per student for taking care of them and the students will be at school during the day. Bill Norman is taking four Korean students. Let me know if you can help us with this!
· Our Olympic Day was a success and I wish that you all could have seen Ruby run and Debora eat that pie! We will be posting pictures on the website!
· The Music Festival has been changed to March 1.
· Please get your money in on the apple orders and the Entertainment book orders!
· The teachers would like to ask you once again to pick up your child at 3:00. If you come after 3:30, please contribute to our Worthy Student Fund by giving the teacher on duty 5.00! Our teachers have been with children all day and they have appointments that they need to keep. They can’t leave if your child is here!
I think that that is the most important news. Our next big event will be the Christmas performance. If any of you would like to help, please contact Mrs. McClendon. Have a wonderful Sabbath!

Hello Parkview Parent!

We have a very exciting week coming up this next week! Sunday will be Parent-Teacher Conferences. You should have received the schedule this week and noted the time when you and your child are scheduled to meet with the teacher. Please contact your child’s teacher if you will not be able to keep the appointment. We hope that you will be pleased with the progress that your child is making. This is a good time to talk about your concerns and strategies for improving your child’s education. We are a team and we work best when we are on the same page.
Please help us with the following items:
· Fill out a short questionnaire to help us with the latest Valuegenesis. The teachers will have them for you at the Parent-Teacher Conference.
· Sign up to support your child’s class with the Fall Festival. If everyone helps out, it will make the load easier for all of us and everyone will enjoy the activities more.
· Select your most requested recipes to put into a Parkview Cookbook to raise money for playground equipment. Please submit at least to our office. Our students will type them and organize them.
· Tell your friends and family about the Fall Festival. This is always a lot of fun! There is still time to add booths. All but our youngest students will be singing for the first time publicly! Bring money for the pie auction and for great food and fun activities!
· SELL APPLES!
· Check out the Scholastic Book Fair in the classroom off of the library! It will be there all week, ending the night of Fall Festival.
I can’t believe that we are at the end of October! This Friday we are making plans to celebrate Reformation Day. October 31st is when Martin Luther courageously nailed the 95 thesis to the Wittenburg church door. We are planning some interesting activities which we hope will help the students understand the importance of the Protestant Reformation and to trust the Bible so that they won’t be led astray.
Have a wonderful Sabbath! Pray for us as we work with your children!

Parkview News October 17

October 17,2008

Hello Parents!

I hope that you are reading this note online or picking it up in the office!  Olympic Day was a lot of fun!  There were some surprises, especially in the races.  Take time to look at the photos on the website.  I hope that this will become an annual event.  Please remember that this next week is Parent-Teacher Conferences.  If you would like to meet with a teacher about your child’s grade at different time, that will be fine, but we want to stress that EVERYONE needs to have a conference with their child’s teacher.  I will not be available in the afternoon on Sunday.  This will also be a good time to confirm what you will be able to do for our Fall Festival on November 1 from 6:00-9:00 pm.  This is a major fundraiser and the students will be singing that night for the first time publicly.  If we have enough people volunteering at the booths, we can trade off so that everyone has an opportunity to take part in the activities.  Be there and bring your friends and family.

Have you offered apples to your friends?  Our fruit sales will end shortly and we want to encourage you to sale as many as possible.  Our Worthy Students are depending on you!   Some of you have sent back the extra Fundraiser books but have not sent back the money that was earned with the books!  Please remember that each book sold for 20.00.  We have to send in the money!

Have a wonderful Sabbath!

Hello Parkview Parent!

Aren’t you enjoying this beautiful weather?  It has been wonderful and the kids have enjoyed playing outside so much.  It was especially nice to have this weather for our Outdoor School.  The kids had a great time and had the chance to do some things that they don’t get to do every day.

Let me give you the latest news!  First of all, we will not be sending out the weekly newsletter anymore.  We are going to post them online since so many of you are not getting them from your child.  The website is www.parkviewadventistacademy.com.  Please note that you can still go to the office to pick up a copy if you are not online.  We hope that this will be more convenient for you.  Haniel Burton is our webmaster and he is doing an excellent job in making sure that it is updated.  The calendar is also revised.  I am sending home the October calendar and please note the changes.  We decided to change the Olympic Day to a Friday instead of having it on Sunday.  Also please notice that the end of the first quarter is approaching and we will have Parent-Teacher Conference on the last Sunday of the month but we will not have the pie auction that day since we decided that it would be a great addition to the Fall Festival.  Please make plans to meet with your child’s teacher and bring your child with you.  If you would like to schedule a different time, contact your child’s teacher.

  • The shirts have come in!  They are 10.00 a piece for the short sleeves and 18.00 for long sleeves.
  • PLEASE return the unsold Entertainment books or the money for them as soon as possible!
  • Picture Day is this next week!

Fall Festival will be November 1 instead of when it was previously scheduled.  Please contact your child’s teacher to let them know how you will be able to contribute.  We need EVRERYONES help to make this a success.  This is not only a lot of fun, but we raise a lot of money for classrooms, equipment and other projects.  This year there will be a pie auction so if you know someone who could donate a special pie (or other dessert) contact Mrs. McClendon.  All of the money from the pie auction will go to the music program which is just starting and has no money!  If you would like to set up a booth to promote your business, let us know.

This year we want to update our outside play equipment.  If you would be willing to serve on a committee to select the equipment and make this a reality, please let me know.  Our little kids need a big, all-in-one piece with a new slide to replace the one that we are removing.  It would be great if we could unveil some great equipment this spring.

The apple orders are here!  Follow the instructions on the paper that is attached to this letter.

This year has been a hard year for several of our parents.  We need to pull together and help our students and so we are making a push.  Please help!  Every little bit helps.  We never want money to keep a student from attending our school.  We will have booths at the Fall Festival to help with Worthy Student, but if you can help sponsor a student, please let me know!  Even if it is only for 20.00 a month, it will make a real difference in a child’s life.

Have a wonderful Sabbath!

Hello Parkview Parent

Our second week of testing is over! Now we will wait for the results. Hopefully they will back before Christmas vacation. And now after all of that work, our third to sixth graders will be off to Outdoor School in Talequah. The kids are so excited and the camp is very nice. This year’s adventure will include a visit to a submarine and time exploring creeks! They will leave on Sunday and will be back on Thursday. Those who go to Outdoor School will not have class next Friday.
We will not be sending home a calendar for this month. An updated version of our calendar is available on the website (www.parkviewadventistacademy.com). We might have to move Olympic Day…we will keep you posted. We will be adding the pie auction to the Fall Festival which has been moved to November 1.
If you need Parkview shirts, we now have all of the sizes in the office. The cost is 10.00 per shirt and we have a few long-sleeved shirts. If you would like to buy shirts, please come see me after school. Mrs. Litchfield, who helps us in the office, will not be in this next week because she will be helping out at Outdoor school.
Please continue to keep Parkview in your prayers. We thank you for the opportunity to teach your kids. We know that your kids are your most precious treasure and we take our jobs very seriously. Take time to talk to your child’s teacher this next week. We are half way through our first quarter and it is a good time to make sure that you know how well your child is doing.
If you haven’t done it yet, please turn in any unsold books!
Have a great weekend!
